The adult intensive care unit (AICU) of the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital officially launched on July 15^th, 2013. Under the guidance of modern critical care medicine theory, it adheres to international standards. With the help of advanced equipment and organ function monitoring and support technology, AICU conducts comprehensive monitoring of critical patients and provides organ function support. It is also responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of other diseases. The AICU nursing team is a professional team guided by scientific management and evidence-based guidelines. After 9 years of development, the Department now has 22 beds and 50 nurses with about 90% of the nurses holding a bachelor's degree or above.

Enhance and Develop Clinical Expertise

Since establishment, the nursing team has actively cooperated with doctors to provide high quality, precise and top clinical services to critically ill patients. Carrying out prone ventilation treatment, various forms of continuous blood purification, plasma exchange, blood perfusion, artificial liver treatment, IABP, ECMO treatment, the team has successfully treated lots of critically ill patients. Since 2015, early functional exercise has been routinely carried out for critically ill patients, paying more attention to the prognosis, rehabilitation and quality of life of critically ill patients.

Quality Management and Training

Our patient-centered nursing team has established three-level quality control system and an evidence-based specialist system. It has formed 10 clinic-oriented teams, including trauma resuscitation team, hemodynamic group, and respiratory treatment / critical rehabilitation. Our team prioritizes the safety of critically ill patients, and with quality care as the core, regularly organizes and carries out various forms of workshops and drills. It builds a well-trained and professional nursing team, creating a good management atmosphere. The team has established a systemized and improved training entrance system, and has constantly optimized the work process, improving nursing quality.

Achievements

In 2013, the AICU nursing team won the honor of "Shenzhen Excellent Nursing Group".

In 2016, "Reducing the Incidence of CAUTI in Critical Patients" won the Guangdong provincial excellent achievement award for evidence-based nursing.

In 2018, the nursing team’s selected cases won the honor of "Most Shareable Nursing Cases" by Shenzhen Public Hospital Management Center.

In 2021, our team won the first prize of the advanced group in the fight against COVID-19.
