The Cardiac and Vascular Center, certified by the National Chest Pain Center, Heart Failure Center and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, is one of the six major centers of excellence of the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital. The nursing team of the center is composed of six wards: B1W, A2E, A2W, CICU, PCICU and cardiac rehabilitation, including one senior head nurse, four head nurses and seven senior nurses, a total of 88 members. More than 80% of the nurses own bachelor's degrees or above. Adhering to the service concept of " patient safety first", and centering on the development strategy of "quality innovation, integration of care", the team builds a nursing quality management structure and system, which is in line with international standards, keeps pace with the times, and provides high-quality clinical nursing services for patients.

B1W Nursing Team

B1W mainly treats patients with aortic disease, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, cardiac tumor, congenital heart disease, arrhythmia, heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases.

A2E Nursing Team

The team mainly treats patients with common cardiovascular diseases, critical illnesses and various highly challenging cardiovascular diseases in both the division of Cardiovascular Medicine and the Division of Cardiac Arrhythmia.

Perioperative care associated with new technologies has already been implemented around 2021, including the following aspects: hot or cold ablation of atrial fibrillation, left auricular occlusion, combined internal and external membrane ablation of patients with cardiovascular disease-related highly challenging ventricular tachycardia, His bundle pacing, left bundle branch pacing, ICD and CRT implantation.

The team has undertaken the construction of the Heart Failure Centre, and is working with the Centre to build the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre, the Chest Pain Centre and the Atrial Fibrillation Centre. By forming a multidisciplinary management team, the team is able to strengthen patients' self-management skills and work in unison with the medical team to minimize the risk of re-hospitalization and death of heart failure patients.

A2W Nursing Team

The cardiac and Vascular Center is one of the six centers of excellence of the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital, and has been accredited by the National Chest Pain Center, Heart Failure Center, and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. Cardiovascular Comprehensive Medicine is booming, which provides patients with the care of common and critical cardiovascular diseases. It also provides nursing care for diseases such as ACS, coronary intervention, heart failure, hypertension, left atrial appendage occlusion, pacemaker and structural heart disease.

We follow the requirements of the National Chest Pain Center to open the green channel for chest pain patients, carry out pre-treatment to save the myocardium, and move professional evaluation forward. We provide standardized nursing care tailored for patients receiving interventional treatment and "one-stop" nursing services. To spread the knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and benefit more citizens, the team carries out lectures and free clinic activities several times a year, showing the meticulous service and professionalism of the team. We will make every effort to achieve the "ten safety" goals, set national key disciplines, and devote ourselves to building a high-quality team.

Nursing Team of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

The CICU nursing team provides critical care for cardiology and arrhythmia and perioperative care of cardiac surgeries simultaneously. Specific disease categories include the following: Coronary Artery Disease(CAD), Acute Myocardial Infarction(AMI), Heart Failure(HF), arrhythmia, Congenital Heart Disease(CHD) and great vascular disease of heart, etc. The team embraced new challenges and transitioned from CCU to CICUlast year. We have developed many monitoring and treatment techniques, for instance, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, blood purification treatment, IABP, ECMO, etc. 

Our medical care team carries out treatment for refractory HF and mechanical circulation, assist and do correlational studies on myocardial damage. We establish a nursing network of ECMO treatment centers in the Great Bay Area, a referral mechanism and a quality control system. We provide multiple organ function monitoring and support. We insist on being a nursing team of quality and devote to creating a “positive and brave” nursing team. We are fearless of danger and difficulty. We will strive forward with one heart and mind. 

Nursing Team of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) provides treatments and nursing services for critically ill children with congenital heart disease. We take care of children under 18 years old and also deliver the transport of children with congenital heart disease. The nursing team has cooperated with the cardiac and vascular team to carry out many critical operation techniques, and successfully treated a number of patients in complex conditions. So far we have acquired good results and patient satisfaction, we will try our best to continue providing services ranging from intrahospital transport, perioperative nursing to follow-up for children.

Nursing Team of Cardiac Rehabilitation 

The cardiac rehabilitation area belongs to the Cardiac and Vascular Center, providing services to both the inpatients and outpatients. It is a national cardiac rehabilitation center and the first training base for cardiopulmonary specialist nurses. It is staffed by doctors, cardiac specialist nurses, physiotherapists, nutritionists, clinical pharmacists, occupational therapists and psychological consultants. Currently, there are two specialist cardiac rehabilitation nurses.
