Nursing Team of Orthopedic Center
Strive for Perfection and Pursue Excellence
The nursing team of Orthopedic Center provides nursing care at Adult Orthopedic Wards B5 East and West, Children's Surgical Wards B4 West, Rehabilitation Department C5 East and Chinese Medicine Department C5 West, with 202 ward beds. The nursing team has a total of 81 people, including six head nurses and 10 senior nurses, among which 96.3% hold bachelor’s degrees. Supported by Orthopedic Center, the team is committed to providing high-quality, efficient and professional nursing services for patients.
The team places great importance on patient safety, and always puts nursing quality and management in the first place. It has improved nursing quality by formulating specialized nursing guidelines, monitoring indicators of various specialties, implementing clinical pathways, carrying out CQI projects, and multi-format education and promotion. The team has established the standardized nursing quality management system and regularized its implementation. To that end, 196 documents of different specialties have been compiled, with three specialties indicators monitored. It has also sorted out 30 kinds of education and promotion videos as well as other publicity materials, and has carried out clinical pathways for 81 categories of diseases. In the past few years, the team has undertaken two projects of Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission, published eight papers and applied for one patent. There have been provincial and municipal continuing education projects such as "Seminar on Information Management of Orthopedic Nursing" and "Seminar on Perioperative Nursing Safety for Elderly Patients with Orthopedic Diseases."
Case management helps with rare disease treatment
Since 2014, the Center has applied a case management model to manage patients diagnosed with osteogenesis imperfecta, and has appointed two case managers to build case files and to follow patients in terms of outpatient and inpatient services, and their health conditions at home. Altogether they have managed more than 400 cases. The Center also holds activities for the patient group every year, and helps most of the children with osteogenesis imperfecta return to normal school life. The Center and its nursing team places great emphasis on humanistic care. They have built a reading corner and opened a seires of classes entitled "Little Water Drop".
Multi-format promotion and education to raise awareness of health
The Center has made various publicity materials like videos and brochures. With the help of technology, it has bult a database to store digital contents for promotional and educational purposes. It has also posted contents of preoperative preparation, robots assisting patients to learn about the Hospital and rehabilitation exercises on its WeChat official account. Diversified forms of disease and health education can be found in the ward areas and personalized instructions, such as preparatory classes about joint protection. They have helped achieved better promotional and educational outcomes, and enhanced patient satisfaction.
Recovery gains momentum
According to rehabilitation assessments, the Center works with doctors and therapists to make individualized rehabilitation plans and appropriate ADL training methods. The nursing team helps patients do in-bed or bedside rehabilitation exercises, and guides hemiplegics to get dressed, have meals, wash face and brush teeth. The team requires patients to actively undertake exercises and practice self-care, the training of which has obtained promising results and has gained satisfaction of patients’ families. They help patients achieve rehabilitation goals as early as possible.
Nursing care features TCM
Based on wholism of traditional Chinese medicine and evidence-based nursing care, the nursing team carries out practices with Chinese medicine characteristics. The practices include thunder-fire moxibustion, ear acupuncture, cupping therapy, fire dragon moxibustion, and scraping therapy. They provide rehabilitation care for patients with hemiplegia, stroke, facial paralysis, poliomyelitis, impotence, and those in need of postoperative rehabilitation. The goal is to spread the knowledge and promote the culture of traditional Chinese medicine.
Through providing specialized nursing services, the nursing team strives to create a professional, safe and satisfactory medical environment. The Center has built a pilot smart ward, and trialed a batch of artificial intelligence equipment such as nursing robots. They aim to provide patients with intelligent, convenient and safe nursing care. Along with the development of Orthopedic Center, these efforts continue to safeguard the health of citizens.
