  • Gynecology & Obstetric Clinic

The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, HKU-Shenzhen Hospital, works closely with The University of Hong Kong which has more than a century’s experience in clinical service. We adopt a modern paradigm in the running of health care service.

The Department emphasizes on effective communication between staff members as well as good doctor-patient communication to ensure high quality medical service. We aim at keeping our clinical practice up to international standard, and hence we are advocate of evidence-based medicine and take reference from international clinical management guidelines. We do not support treatment options without proper scientific basis.  In this regard, our practice may differ from some other hospitals in mainland China.

Our Hospital adopts an appointment system. This tries to benefit patients by reducing their waiting time for consultation in the hospital, and ensure adequate contact time between each patient and the doctor. Patients are not supposed to choose a particular doctor. Follow-up appointments and bookings for operation can be made immediately after the consultation.

Pelvic floor organ prolapse and urinary incontinence are common health problems affecting women.  Pelvic floor organ prolapse refers to the descent of the pelvic floor organs (uterus, vagina, bladder and/or rectum) from their usual anatomical positions because of laxity and loss of support, so that the women may experience dragging sensation or mass protruding from the introitus.  Common types of urinary incontinence include: urinary stress incontinence, urge incontinence and urinary frequency.  The Gynaecology Unit of the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital runs a urogynaecology service to provide medical care for women suffering from the above problems.  Consultation procedures include: history taking, gynaecological examination, urinary diary keeping, urodynamic studies etc.  Treatment options will depend on the symptoms and assessment results, and may include pelvic floor exercise, bladder training, use of vaginal pessary, medication or surgical operation.
